Yes, it’s a song by Ween…..but head on down to the Cheese Iron in Scarborough, for some tastier versions of Chocolate and cheese. Nutmeg Foods (in So Po?) has been creating an array of chocolates filled with various cheeses….gorgonzola, chevre, and little parmesan nuggets…just for the CI. May sound strange at first, but so does eating the inside of a sea urchin. And I have never met a sea urchin I didn’t like. Well…there was that ONE time, but it was from Kentucky, so it had an excuse.

Some folks may have gotten a little tired of the deer pics…..Apparently there was a chef named Jim from somewhere in the middle of the country who had an issue with my blog. Screw him, he pushes a pencil for a living, hasnt actually touched food in years, and has to go to Tantric sex therapy because he is old and past his prime……sorry about the stretch of not posting. Busy, busy, busy!!!
The end of October brought a wonderful trip to Montreal, with the highlight being dinner at Au Pied de Cochon. Drop what you are doing, right now, go make reservations…..take the trip just to eat. K and I ate some of the tastiest, unpretentious food we have ever seen….. beginning with pork rinds, fried cod fritters, and house smoked sausage….then to a slab of foie gras terrine the size of my head and the crispy salad (with focus on the crispy, chewy pig parts, and the strangely delicate seasoning….best salad EVER.)
An older Ostertag washed down these courses, and Phillipe, the Sommelier and our server, was psyched that I ordered it…you can see him in the PDC book and dvd…..cool cat.
We shared a moment while we shared a bowl of the best tripe i have ever had, and couldnt finish the rib and frites (because of the moment)….all warm and fuzzy after a bottle of wine from Bandol that i had never seen in the states, but had driven by numerous times in Le Castellet.
We asked Phillipe where he eats. (obviously) He said “Les 3 Petit Bouchons.” We ate there the next night, and the wine list was TIGHT…..food as well. All chalkboard menu. Best Pissaladiere I have ever had outside of Nice, and the most amazing Cremant known to man.
Evangeline now has a handful of contractors working to build out the space. Kitchen equipment has been ordered, tile is being laid next week, plumbers coming as well…..The window sign is designed, Limoges has been ordered, menus written. Plus a bunch of stuff you dont care to hear about. The stuff I really dont want to think about. (scraping out the past few years of slime and sludge left by previous tenant……no handsink in the kitchen, either. Shared handsink for the restrooms…..Unbelievable….)
